Slender Man

The Slender Man is an alleged paranormal figure purported to have been in existence for centuries, covering a large geographic area. Believers in the Slender Man tie his appearances in with many other legends around the world, including; Fear Dubh (or, The Dark Man) in Scotland, the Dutch Takkenmann (Branch Man), and the German legend of Der Großmann or Der Grosse Mann (the Tall Man).(Source)

Identifying Characteristics: Very tall, faceless man. disproportionate, slender arms and legs. Anywhere from four to eight long tentacles emanating from his back. Some dispute this number and propose instead that the Slenderman can conjure up the tentacles at will. Able to stretch it's already seemingly stretched body. Pale white face, appearing to be gauze or cloth wrapped. Some speculate that the Slender man does infact have features on his face, but postulate that hemay beable to change these at will in order to terrify his victims. Sometimes wears an old fashioned type hat (ie: bowler, top hat, fedora) Always wears a dark, possibly pinstriped suit. Some have aquainted him with the notorious Men in Black because of this. Unlike the Men in Black, the Slenderman has considerable coat tails attached to his suit. Often seen with his hand eerily behind hisback or resting at his sides.

Known Behaviour: Often sighted in wooded areas.  Is not affected by sunlight, or electronic equipment. Photographs have been taken of him. (See Below)  Believed to stalk children only, although this is unverified. Has been seen peering into windows, or walking in front of motorists. Seems to prefer large groups of children. Reported to float or hover in air rather than walk. Possible interdimensional creature, or otherwise ethereal.Prefers suburban environment, choosing wooded areas. Ability to detect fear of him. Postulated that he may be able to determine those who have a great obsession or fear of him, and is said to stalk or attack them. Enjoys psychologically torturing his prey. Unknown what he does with his victims, whether he kills, or abducts to possible other dimensions. There are no bodies to speak of.

Conclusion: The Slender Man does NOT exist except in the minds of those who choose to believe. This character was created in a contest on the Something Awful forums in 2009. He is in essence the first "Internet Myth".  He was invented by a something awful forum user with the monacre "Victor Surge".  The Slender Man then became viral andmany other "legends, sightings, encounters" were spawned. There are those that still believe even though it has been proven tobe a hoax, affiliating the Slender Man with older legends and folklore.
