Vampires
Everyone has heard about the creatures of the night, known as vampires. There are discrepancies as to what constitutes a vampire, whether there is siphoning of human blood,or if vampirism is more psychic in nature.
Recently I discovered that New Orleans lore and culture includes many tales about vampires. One such write up can be found here.
Stephanie Meyer brought the fascination of vampires back in her book Twilight, however she altered the mythos by allowing the vampires in her novel the ability to wander into the daylight and then sparkle. She humanized what has long been thought of as monsters, damned, etc.
Many people claim to be vampires, and yet have only altered their teeth to create fangs using normal human dentistry, or else they claim to be psychic vampires. Some go around finding "donors" that allow them to bite and siphon blood all willy nilly, however they are all in fact human, with no hint of supernatural powers whatsoever.
But are vampires real? It is my personal opinion that there is always a bit of truth no matter how small to any legend or myth. The difficult part comes in trying to separate fact from fiction. This page will be ongoing as I am able to research and hone the information in my attempt to separate.
Identifying characteristics: Has the ability to fly, May or may not be able to enter a home without permission, Sharp fangs (incisors)used to bite the necks of prey and drinking only the blood. Human looking in appearance. Believed to be a reanimated corpse.
Lore:The most famous vampire is Dracula, "Vlad the Impaler" who lived in Transilvania (although connections between vampirism and Vlad Tepes have been disproven by scholars of the subject, it is still a popular connection)
